Lash Lift Guide

The Ultimate Lash Lift Guide

What is a lash lift?

Prepare to be amazed by the lash lift—a transformative service that grants your natural lashes a longer, fuller, and denser appearance. Achieved by applying a customized mixture of chemicals that curl the lashes upwards, this technique is often referred to as an eyelash perm due to the perming solution used to lift and curl the lashes. No extensions are involved; instead, your natural lashes are reshaped to perfection.

How Is a Lash Lift Service Performed?

Embark on the journey to captivating lashes with this simple procedure, broken down into the following steps:

Step 1: Consultation and Cleaning

  • Consult with your technician to discuss allergies and desired results.

  • Opt for a softer or more dramatic curl.

  • Thoroughly cleanse the eye area, ensuring lashes are free from makeup, skincare products, and sebum.

Step 2: Applying Eyelid Pads

  • Shield lower eyelids with silicone pads.

  • Close your eyes throughout the procedure.

  • Attach a rod-shaped silicone pad to the upper eyelids to determine the curl intensity.

Step 3 – Lashes Glued onto the Rod

  • Gently brush lashes upward and secure them onto the silicone rod.

Step 4 – Perming

  • Apply the perming solution, which softens, straightens, and makes lashes more flexible for molding.

  • Coat lash hairs with the solution and leave it on for around 10 minutes.

Step 5 – Setting

  • Remove the perming solution and apply the neutralizing solution to set the lashes' desired shape.

  • Let the neutralizing solution sit for about 10 minutes.

Step 6 – Cleaning Off the Chemicals

  • Clean off the neutralizing solution and remove the silicone pad.

  • If tinting isn't included, the treatment concludes, and you can open your eyes.

Do's And Don'ts of Lash Lift Aftercare

Ensure enduring results by adhering to this aftercare routine:

  • Day 1: Avoid rubbing or wetting lashes for 24 hours. Refrain from applying makeup, face creams, or conditioning oils. Steer clear of face steamers or saunas.

  • Day 2: Continue avoiding eye rubbing and steamers.

  • Day 3+: Keep avoiding rubbing and waterproof mascara. Opt for gentle foaming cleansers and oil-free eyelash serums. Gently brush lashes to maintain their shape.

Lash Lift vs Lash Extensions

Distinguish lash lifts from extensions—lash lifts focus on your natural lashes without artificial additions. This treatment enhances each individual lash, resulting in a thicker, longer appearance. A lash lift is a low-maintenance process taking around an hour, utilizing a small rod to curl and set lashes. A patch test 48 hours prior to treatment is recommended for first-timers.

Lash Lift Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a lash lift last?

The effects of a lash lift last for up to 8 weeks so it is really worth it for the hassle-free time between treatments. Your eyelashes naturally shed and are replaced through new growth. Depending on the speed of your own lash replacement cycle, you may need the treatment repeated sooner.

The tint element of a lash lift doesn’t last as long as the lift itself. You can expect the tinting to start fading at around the 3-week mark.

How long does a lash lift take?

Lash lifts typically take around an hour to complete. It’s a focused and relaxing treatment that isn’t uncomfortable in any way.

How much is a lash lift?

At Lavoom Salon, eyelash lifting costs just $85 for a 1-hour service.

How long after a lash lift can I shower?

To ensure the best salon-like look for as long as possible, avoid a shower or humid environment for 48 hours after your lash lift until it has been fully set. If you do shower in those first couple of days, make it speedy and try to keep water off of your face.

Also during the first few days, take extra care washing your face. Try to keep water away from your lashes where possible. You can use cotton pads or wipes for those few days, allowing you to avoid the area.

Can you wear mascara after a lash lift?

Again, we recommend that you avoid mascara for 48 hours after a lash lift. As long as a tint has been done at the same time, as is common, then this isn’t a problem as your lashes will naturally look darker and thicker. However, wearing mascara is absolutely fine once the tint element starts to fade at around the 3-week mark. Just make sure that you use an oil-free formula and oil-free make-up remover.

We also recommend that you avoid waterproof mascara. This is because it’s much harder to remove and this can affect the look of your lash lift. But we promise that having a lash lift and tint removes the need for heavy mascara altogether!

What about eyeliner?

Again, you’ll probably find that you don’t feel so desperate to reach for eyeliner once you’ve had a lash lift and tint. However, if you’d like to continue using eyeliner, wait until the first 48 hours have passed and use an oil-free eyeliner.

Does lash lifting damage your eyelashes?

Lash lifts are often chosen partially because it is considerably less damaging to your eyelashes than extensions. Indeed, some beauticians will assert that last lifts are less damaging to eyelashes than daily application and removal of eye makeup. Some individuals do find that the setting chemicals can make their eyelashes brittle, making them easier to snap. However, this is one reason we always recommend a patch test at least 48 hours before your service, if you haven’t had a lash lift before.

Potential Side Effects

As with any beauty treatment, it's essential to be aware of potential side effects, though they are rare. Some individuals might experience:

  • Irritation: Mild irritation or redness around the eye area, which usually subsides quickly.

  • Allergic Reactions: In rare cases, an allergic reaction to the chemicals used could occur. A patch test is recommended for those with sensitive skin.

  • Lash Damage: Incorrectly performed lash lifts or multiple treatments in a short period might lead to lash damage or breakage.

While these side effects are uncommon, at Lavoom Salon, we prioritize your safety. We conduct thorough consultations and offer patch tests if requested to minimize the risk of adverse reactions. If you have any concerns about potential side effects, please discuss them with our experienced technicians during your consultation.
